Sri Lanka vs Australia Live Match Today AUS vs SL Cricket 2019
For as impressive as David Warner, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell were with the bat-even ensuring Steve Smith didn't get a bat in a full game across all formats for the first time since early 2015-Sri Lanka were nightmarishly poor. It was surprising, considering how well the likes of Kasun Rajitha had bowled against the Prime Minister's XI in Canberra just three nights prior. But rarely have long-hops and full-tosses been dished out with the kind of generosity that the visitors drowned the hosts with on Sunday (October 27). It almost seemed like some bizarre form of reverse hospitality-as if they wanted Australia to feel at home. And of course, once they let Warner and Finch get away early on, there was to be no stopping them, not like the Lankans looked to be trying.
In a game that was dominated by the bat, there were some really impressive performances with the ball that ended up going under the radar. While Starc and Cummins were quick and incisive, Ashton Agar slipped in with a very tidy and effective spell, and tied up the usually belligerent Sri Lankan middle-order with great guile. Warner had said that the Australians ended up executing their Plan A to perfection in Adelaide, but you can imagine Smith getting a little desperate to get a bat. The only change Australia have to make is bringing in Billy Stanlake for Starc, who misses this game to attend his brother's wedding. But Sri Lanka won't be allowed to relax, for Stanlake is taller, meaner and quicker than even the high-profile fellow-pacer he is likely to come in for.
Australia are without Mitchell Starc who misses today's game to attend his brother's wedding. The tall Billy Stanlake will take his place and the surface at the Gabba might just suit him the best. Sri Lanka had no positives to carry forward from the previous game. Their bowlers were taken to the cleaners and the batsmen failed miserably. However, they might not tinker with the playing XI as it was just one bad game. If they do make any change then it will be in the bowling department so that there is more support for their skipper Malinga. Toss and teams coming up shortly.. Stay tuned!
Malinga at least started decently with the ball but the bug caught up with even the T20 legend eventually. To the extent that in his second spell, he ended up landing an attempted off-cutter outside the playing surface and nearly on the adjacent pitch on the leg-side of Glenn Maxwell. It was so poor a delivery that both Warner, at the non-striker's end, and the umpire on that side spent a good two minutes discussing and trying to fathom just how Malinga got it so wrong.
The batting was equally substandard against a fired-up Aussie attack and save a couple of breath-taking deliveries one each from Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, most batsmen didn't quite seem to know what was expected of them while they were in the middle. Eventually, it took Malinga and Nuwan Pradeep, who finished with miraculous figures of 0/28 in four overs amidst the carnage, to play out the last four overs and ensure the Sri Lankans weren't bowled out.
While the Lankans can only look upwards and get better following the Adelaide debacle, the Australians are looking in the same direction too with Finch revealing his plans of taking his team to the top of the rankings leading up to the T20 World Cup at home next year. That'll require the fourth-ranked team to win as many of the 23 matches left before then, and expect the Aussies to go equally hard at Malinga & Co at the Gabba even if the Lankans do show up in that other world-beating avatar they have revealed on occasions in 2019.
